Originating in the Canadian wilderness, an idea between two good friends by the captivating beauty of our nation's landscapes. Over the five decades that followed, Roots has become synonymous with high-quality craftsmanship and uncompromising comfort, uniting cabin and city while encouraging people to experience the great Canadian outdoors.

Michael & Don

Our founders, Michael Budman and Don Green, are two city kids who met at summer camp in Algonquin Park. They created Roots from a little cabin and grew it into one of Canada’s most well-known and loved brands.

The Kowalewskis

Since its doors first opened, our Toronto Leather Factory has been operated by three generations of the Kowalewski family. Over the past 50 years, our leather team has grown to 180 makers and is still famous for its old-world craftsmanship. Today the Kowalewskis still lead our Toronto Leather Factory, where our leather bags, jackets and select accessories remain handcrafted.

Roots Stories

After 50 years, Roots has become part of the fabric of people's lives. Roots Stories will chronicle the intersection of generations of Roots customers and the part Roots pieces have played in their lives – from farmers to celebrities.

Introducing our Golden Beaver Collection, a true gem for our anniversary — showcasing our iconic logo in lustrous gold. These collector's editions are a tribute to the golden thread of comfort and quality woven into the very nature of Roots since 1973.
