Rated 2 out of 5 by Linda13 from Original Longer Sweat shorts 6” Discontinued I’ve been happily buying the original longer 6” sweat shorts for close to 15 yrs and your other sweats for more than 20 yrs. Why are you discontinuing the 6” length ? I think they were actually 5” at one point which was even better. Please at least carry the flagship 6” Salt + Pepper grey, where it all started for Roots. I don’t know why you offer a 3” (not intended to offend anyone, but I think the 3” typically suits smaller and/or taller body types the best) and now you plan to discontinue the 6” and go straight to 8”. (I know you have a 6” high waist but that’s a different story and suits specific people) An 8” is closer to a dress short style length, (it’s going to come almost to the knee) I find the sizes run large primarily because of the cut with a wide leg. I buy a size small in the original 6” sweat shorts, and I’m by no means a small in other brands, but I learned after my first pair which were size medium, that the fabric and the waist really stretches out. Why are you discontinuing the original 6” ? I also don’t understand why you carry the “one size”, Women’s, and mens and why the original doesn’t come in similar colors. The “original “, the “one size” and the Beaver Canoe line is all the same stuff except the sizing isn’t consistent. I would assume you have a very loyal long term customer base who like myself comes back time and again for the same great original basics. If you are looking to diversify your selection with a different price point, for a different customers, why remove the original flagship cuts and sizes ? Your selection in colors has expanded, but more so in the non original line up. If you want to diversify maybe look at different styles and fabrics all together. Change whatever you want but dont mess with the basic, at least the sizing of the “originals”. In my opinion if you keep changing the “original” sweats, you’ll lose a lot of the customer base that comes back to get that Roots “feeling” and the old faithful sweats. I’ve tried the “one size” and the Beaver Canoe, and they just aren’t the same. The don’t fit or feel the same. I think you have brought some nice interesting new styles the last few years, but your identity can’t be everything. Roots to me says the outdoors, the cottage, camping, canoeing, bonfires, and BBQ’s, concerts, the lake and good memories with friends and casual get togethers, even in the city. It may represent something different for others, but at least don’t change the original sweats or give advance notice. Had I known that next year I won’t be able to purchase my favorites, I would have bought several pairs this year before they are discontinued. I have already noticed over the last few years some fabric quality decline in some the original sweats and T-Shirts. So based on this, unless the original sizes in the original fabric and colors come back, no I wouldn’t recommend sending my friends or family to Roots. I hope you take this honest criticism to use in a positive way going forward. Linda
