At first within first hour, I noticed my arm had black lines, I thought something was wrong with my arm, then I realized it was the black back, the ink was transferring to my arm. I was wearing it on my shoulder so the inside of my arm was black. An hour later took it off my shoulder and noticed it was piling all over the inside - the part of the back that was against my side was piling all on that side, most of the time I was sitting. I have never had a bag ever do that, not even a cheap bag. I bought this because I wanted a nice tote I could fold into my purse. This looked thick and durable and of good quality and of course, its Roots so I thought, this has to be good quality because my Roots clothes has lasted years. Nope this barely last a couple hours of use where like I said most of the time I was sitting. Walked just a little bit with it on my shoulder, I've done it with all my other tote bags and they've lasted years with no ink transfer or piling. I was disappointed to say the least. My problem is i bought it and came home and took off the tag and threw out the bill because I thought I would never have to exchange it. In my years of using tote bags I never had an issue once. So never dreamed I'd want to return it. Well after a couple hours I wanted to return this and get my money back but with no tag or receipt I'm out of luck but may still email customer service. $28 is a lot for a tote bag. Luckily since then I fund a $3 tote bag at the Toronto Library and guess what? days of use and absolutely no piling or ink transfer to my body. I wear it on my shoulder same as I do all the others. I wish I found the library bag before I bought the roots bag. The clothes I have from Roots is great, no piling, no ink transfer, no issues. Maybe I got a lemon but this was not a good purchase and waste of $30.
