Great Bag, Cheap HardwareGreat bag, love the look of it and the leather is great quality. Unfortunately, the hardware on one of the buckles is already falling apart and i've had the bag for less than a month and use it lightly a few days a week.

A Great Everyday Work Bag!I bought this bag because I wanted to upgrade my work bag. This bag is great! The leather is perfect as always and it definitely upgraded my look. It's form fitting so when there isn't much in the bag it wraps around your side so it doesn't feel bulky.
I liked how the buckles on the front don't need to be undone to open the bag and that it uses magnets for closure instead.
The bag fits a 15" Macbook which was a necessity for me and there is a bunch of room for chargers, notebooks, and some extra pockets to organize small items. Overall, it is a great bag that's built to last and I look forward to many years with it!

Great looks bad hardware, lintThis is actually my second original briefcase tribe. Which is interesting since they were slightly different. Anyway, quick and dirty is this. It looks great, the patina only gets better but the hardware will break. Both the closures over the two compartments in front and also from the lobster claw that attaches to the leather. Others, you will see have seen the leather fail as have I. In addition since it's unlined I have tons of little brown pillings all over my books, gym clothes or anything else that can take on leather scraps. Again, it looks great and both men and women will compliment the bag.... but it could use some beefier hardware, better stitching and anchoring and a guarantee. I say this as I prepare myself to order a $75 replacement strap for the bag.... which will be my last if this thing kicks it again I'm off the Roots leather train. Stand behind your products rather than charge me $75 for a new strap.

Incredibly disappointed.Disclaimer: I am an otherwise big fan of Roots and their quality and products. HOWEVER, I was extremely disappointed with this bag, especially with for the price I paid for it. There are a number of flaws with both its design and function and the advertisment picture is also very misleading. First of all, the leather is not as stiff as the picture makes it seem. Though there is plastic panelling in the middle compartments, the outer walls are soft and have no structure. Thus, the bag cannot stand alone, and looks frumpy and very unlike what a briefcase should look like. A simple fix for this would have been to add a panel on the back of the bag, instead of leaving it completley unlined...very misleading! Second: you don't need a degree in engineering to see that the loop which holds the strap to the bag is absolutely insufficient for the size of the bag and the normal weight it should be carrying. See a couple reviews below, for someone who made this exact complaint and in fact broke the loop after brief use. This is a very obvious design flaw and it boggles my mind that the craftspeople and designers at Roots would fail to see this. The stitching doesn't even go through the other side of the bag, I'm not sure how they thought 2x 2cm wide little loops could hold the stress of such a large bag. Again, very disappointed, and even more dispointed to have to pay the shipping to return this product which I was convinced I would love from the (ultimately misleading) pictures. I highly dissuade anyone from purchasing this bag. Don't just take my word, but do read the other reviewer's comments about the poor structure and design; criticisms are valid and accurate.

Poor HardwareGreat leather and awesome look. The more worn it gets, the better it looks. Unfortunately, the hardware isn't durable. I'm now replacing my second set of buckle closers on the front. The store staff are getting a little testy and suggesting that I'm abusing the bag. I still like the bag but will choose something a little more durable next time.

What a Great briefcase.I have the Cargo Messenger Tribe bag. It was my baby until I needed a bit more room. A new computer and more books demanded it. This Original Briefcase is perfect. I love the leather, the smell, the room, and the straps and clips. I can look professional in a suit or just look stylish in a pair of jeans at a coffee shop.
Since I have so much Tribe leather I was worried that I'd look a little too Safari-ish, A women in the store looked and told me that that isn't a bad look to have...So I bought it. I'm happy I did.

Ample space; ample style - no regretsOkay guys (and ladies too), first things first: "this" satchelle is freakin' fan-tastic! I purchased it at the Eaton Centre location 197 days ago. I'm only writing this r;eview now because I wanted to have ample time to fully test it out. My girl and guy friends call me kinda a beefman, but out of those 197 days, I have only had 8 "days" without a genuine compliment. I've gotten from "it's a woodsman!" to "do you work on Wall Street?".
The satchelle has more than ample room for my EDC. It easily holds my tablet, sat phone, handheld RF spectrum analyzer, stationary, and extra dress shirt for when I get a sweating spell. What an absolute livesafer!
One thing I really want to stress is how SUPPLE the genuine leather is. Even though it's my prerogative, this beefman has accidentally squished the bag on more than one occasion. Not. A. Single. Crease. (I wonder if "that's" why they call it a SATchelle?) Only Kidding. Seriously though, the leather quality is excellent.
Let me preface this by saying that my father was a furrier. So I think I know what I'm talking about when I say that the craftsmanship of this setchele is it. That's probably the most important thing you should know before you make this purchase. You've been warned.
Beefman or not, this "is" the best bag I've EVERY had.
PS. Sizing is true to size - like I said upstairs, a little tight, not too loose.
