disappointed with qualityI purchased 3 large Banff bags and one large Colorado bag as Christmas presents. My son went to use his last weekend and he noticed that the stitching near the zipper was coming out. It appears to be near the start/end of the stitching seam. We were really disappointed with the quality of this bag. I own several of your bags and totes and was always satisfied with my purchases. He has the black Prince leather with the white stitching.

Great quality and look but not that usefulAs someone with a bunch of Roots leather products (1st generation weekender bag, brown banff jacket, black banff jacket, leather portfolio, etc) I've been a real supporter of the brand. Most of the leather items I have are over 15 years old and still as good as the day I bought them). Looking for a 2nd leather bag for airline carry-on (international
Flights mostly). Bought this one. I've only used it about 6 times in two years. Mostly disappointed.
Great style, and quality (probably will last a lifetime) but not very functional. Bag lacks a good bottom to keep it balanced. Putting an iPad, Bose earphones, book, couple misc items weighs the bag down. Didn't see this as an issue with same items in my 15 year old bag as it has good structure. It has the feel of carrying a pillow case in how it just functions like a sac. Every time I take it on a trip I keep thinking when I walk through an airport about how it just doesn't measure up. Probably a great bag if you're driving (vs airplanes) or don't need to carry it far.

New job, new travel bag!Well that was my line anyway! A truly well made quality piece of leather that looks like it will last for years. I intend to use it as my commute bag and to carry it on flights. Way too nice a bag to leave in the hands of the carrier! It is slightly larger than the allowed size but unless you stuff it to the seams, you will have no problem getting it on-board. Canadian made as well!

Yes, This Bag WILL Last A LifetimeAfter reading the reviews, there are a number of comments along the lines "Seems it will last a lifetime." or "I hope this will last a long time." I'm posting to let you know firsthand that, yes, it will truly last you a lifetime.
I've had my large Banff bag for over 20 years and have the first generation. I got it custom made from the factory, because at the time the color schemes were black with dark brown trim, I believe dark brown with black trim, and black with white stitching. I got mine black-on-black-on-black (that being black leather, with black trim, and black stitching).
There have been improvements since my purchase. The new bags come with a wider and more comfortable shoulder strap than my original, the zippers are now much more robust with larger teeth. I don't have any "feet" on the bottom of my bag either and it's completely unstructured as some of the newer bags have a somewhat stiff bottom or an insert. My bag is lined with a fine thin leather versus the fabric lining the new ones come with, and only has one large inside zipper pocket. I had to get the leather lining replaced a few years ago (I think it was around $50) because it was fatiguing and flaking getting all over the clothes. I asked if they would replace it with fabric, but to keep the integrity of the original bag they could only replace it with leather.
I'm an extremely light packer and my Banff bag has taken hundreds of trips, I've never checked it but it's the perfect carry-on size for a long weekend and up to a week. I have put over a week's worth of summer clothes in it on several occasions I like how the handles can be snapped together with the closure wrap. It's my go-to travel bag and the exterior still looks great after all these years. It has aged amazingly well, still looks new and I have no doubt it will go strong for another 20+ years. The only major thing I could see going wrong is needing a zipper replacement (again as I mentioned previously, my zippers are not as robust as the current bags being sold).
As you can tell, I love my Banff bag. It's the only travel bag you'll ever need if you can pack light. Yes it's expensive at $400USD but factor its an incredible hand-made bag that it will last you a minimum of 20 years which is only $20 a year if you want to look at it that way.
The customer service at Roots is second to none and if you have any issues they can fix them.

Fantastic Bag, Excellent QualityFrom someone who just bought a Hermes fro my Wife, the Roots Banff Bag is excellent and, relatively speaking, a superior value. The Black bag with Brown accents is handsome and distinctive. This bag is a must weekend getaways!

I own nothing but Roots bags. The entire Canadian collection: purse, bag, passport, coin purse & backpack are my favorites along with the Milano Bag and London Prince as great designs when travelling abroad. My everyday use is the Village Pack - of which I change colors frequently. Thank you again for well designed bags made with excellent quatlity

LuxeThis bag is sooo nice. I always love to show it off when I travel! And the straps are really comfortable, too.
