“Human connection is the most beautiful experience... and the pain that might come with losing someone is worth the experience of being able to love them.”

“Jomar and I come from different backgrounds, but it’s so special to share commonalities and learn about each other's upbringings. My biggest challenge as an immigrant was getting over my fear of moving away and being apart from loved ones. I didn’t want to move and leave my friends and extended family behind. It caused me to have a fear of getting too close to people because I was scared I’d have to go through that feeling again. I eventually realized that human connection is the most beautiful experience one can have in life, and the pain that might come with losing someone is worth the experience of being able to love them. That's where the magic is – it's the act of getting to know someone.”

“We are more than just a wife and husband; we are a team, best friends... No matter the challenge, with determination and commitment we can achieve it.”

“The time we had to spend separated because of the immigration process was a big challenge when Beto was immigrating to Canada. We learned our capability and capacity to endure and overcome difficult times. Together we have accomplished a lot; teaching and learning each other's first languages and cultures. Our journey up until now has been beautiful and we are excited for our future together. We are more than just a wife and husband; we are a team, best friends, and every day we fall more in love with each other. We show each other true affections, our truths and our vulnerabilities. No matter the challenge, with determination and commitment we can achieve it.”

“I learned that I can do anything I set my mind to. Nothing teaches you patience and how to handle frustration like a gender transition.”

“Matt and I have known each other for over 10 years, but dating in the last four. It wasn’t always easy. I started medically transitioning from male to female at age 16 – it was terrifying but absolutely the best decision I’ve made in my life. I learned that I can do anything I set my mind to. Nothing teaches you patience and how to handle frustration like a gender transition. For Matt, through this experience he learned to stop caring about what others think of him and felt liberated. We’ve learned that our relationship is what we make of it. The fact that we’ve remained in each other’s lives for 10+ years is in itself quite the journey. We’re best friends as well as partners.”
