A job well done
Beautiful and well made. Has a lot more room than my regular duffel bag. Goes well with *all* my other Roots purses, bags and wallets. I Don’t travel so I can’t say about carry-on vs checking the bag. (However I wouldn’t want it mangled in the checking process, it’s too beautiful. Smells great so I keep it away from smoke (cars or homes). Good job Canada for creating this great product. It will last a long time.

Great bag but not for airport carrying
This is one beautiful bag and it’s a good size. My only complaint is that when full, it is too heavy to drag around the airport without a cart or carrier of some kind if you’re using it as carry-on luggage. If you put it in a trunk or check it at the airport, it’s fine.

It’s heavy!
Although this is a very gorgeous bag and will last a lifetime, it is very heavy when empty. But it does hold a lot of stuff which it even heavier. Great quality!

Okay, so I bought 2 of these bags, the large and small. I'm pretty sure the large is too big to use as a carry on for many flights. Some airlines or flights may allow it but you will not want to take the chance of having to check this bag. I wanted the large one for when I travel by car. I am on my first days with these bags so I can only offer my first impressions. The leather seems tough but soft and pliable, not hard or rigid. Extremely well made with no flaws. Excellent craftsmanship. The bags are also aesthetically pleasing. They are gorgeous. I also applied the roots tribe protector to them and it did not darken the colour or change the feel of the leather. I am very pleased so far.

Love the leather and love the bag.
My hubby got this bag for me for Mother’s Day (after not discreetly hinting that I wanted it) and I absolutely adore it. Stylish and spacious...fits all you need for a weekend away or a few days (depending on how much you pack!). The only drawback (and this is not a criticism of the product itself) is that it’s too big to have as a carry on and so you’ll need to check it...which I’m reluctant to do as I don’t want to damage it! So I may just have to purchase the smaller Banff bag too to have as a carry on ;)

Excellent Bag
Reading some of the reviews regarding this bag, I felt compelled to add a long term perspective. This bag was purchased in 2011 and has served me well for those 8 years. It has held up well under all circumstances; from being overloaded with items, to sitting in the rain (situations probably not recommended by the manufacturer..) and has followed me where it's needed. The seams are rock solid, the leather is thick but pliable and the lacquered brass hardware is dependable, if a little immune to patina. Although no longer available in this two-tone colour leather, these are handsome and utilitarian bags that are worth the cost should you wish to invest it.

Disappointed
Got this bag at Christmas and have had some issues. Love the bag but customer service if you have any problems is very disappointing. The luggage tag was poorly constructed and fell off. The zipper is also sticking and separating. For a bag worth almost $600, I would have expected better quality and better customer service. I expected the bag to last me for years. It might not make it to 6 months.

Great Canadian Quality
I've been looking at this bag for a couple of years but have held off because of the slightly steep price. This past week I finally went for it and am very pleased that I did. It's quality leather, solid feeling hardware and looks great! I'm proud to walk around with this great Canadian product. Very glad roots is still making these in Toronto, as I've noticed them start to offshore some of their other leather goods like shoes lately. Price is worth it if you can support local craftsman, and you get a quality product that seems like it'll last me decades. Definitely a great purchase, and I recommend it!

Worth the investment!
Bought this just a couple days ago as a birthday present to myself. Had been eyeing it for a while but the customer appreciation sale made me decide to take the plunge. Was talking to the sales associate and she said it'll hold up for years and years, can totally see that looking at the quality of it. Can holder much more than it may look, I tend to over pack and can fit a week's worth of clothes in this! My suitcase could barely hold that. I don't fly often so not sure if it would fit carry on requirements.
