Great bag for work or travel
I bought this bag 5 years ago now and it has been all over Europe, North America and the Caribbean. It fits great under the seat on airplanes as a carryon and is very comforatble for carrying on day trips. I also use it daily for work to carry a laptop and work gear. The leather ages very well and the bag has held up perfectly through a lot of use and some abuse. The side snap pocket could be bigger as not much fits in there.
Overall, a great prodcut and will last a lifetime !

Worth every penny!
I purchased the student pack for my Nursing Student Grand daughter.
Wanting to find her THE perfect gift...Roots staff kindly helping me...sent it directly
to her. Turned out, she had been "coveting exactly this bag!!" for some time.

Everything I wanted and MORE
I love this backpack. It is room but not bulky, soft yet sturdy. I got mine in tan and hubz got it in black. I wish I had a valid excuse to buy another one.

Best Backpack Ever!!!

Perfection
I was very skeptical about purchasing this bag. I'm very particular about my bags and my concerns were the size - its huge! the way the straps are attached (didn't think it could handle a full load being attached so close together). But as an avid Roots shopper I trusted in the employees advice as I was between this bag and the smaller one. The bag fits everything - I use it daily. I actually carry my black Edie bag inside of it for quick runs that don't necessarily require my carrying my full pack. I'm so glad I got this bag it was well worth the money.

Best backpack ever!!
I purchased this backpack roughly 6 years ago when many of my clothes were being damaged by cheaper quality backpacks. In addition, I thought it would have been a mistake, and that I would have buyers remorse. However, it ended up lasting throughout college, and new clothes lasted longer. Needless to say, I love this backpack, and use it to this day (even though im done with college). If you're thinking of buying it, go for it. You won't be disapointed.

a hole in the bag after a month
This is a great bag, and I thought it was the perfect purchase. AND THEN AFTER A MONTH INTO USING IT, I DISCOVERED A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM. The leather is extremely soft and unlined, and I never put sharp objects in the bag. Perhaps my bag was a defective one... kind of sad about Roots' return policy (must return in original unworn condition). Please reconsider your return policy Roots! :(

I've had this bag for 7 years!
I received this as a gift for getting into University 7 years ago and I still use it to this day! It's very durable, I've never had to get it repaired or had any trouble with the zippers. It obviously has some wear but it looks amazing. It was definitely worth the money as I haven't had to purchase a backpack in 7 years. It isn't the largest backpack and people have told me numerous times to get a swiss army, but this one is so cute and holds everything I need if I'm going to class or travelling.

STOP Thinking about ...JUST Buy IT!
I thought FOREVER on purchasing this backpack...I knew I wanted it but I had to find the right time financially...NOW let me tell you...this bag is WORTH every loonie and boy does it scream premium Canadian lifestyle...It is perfect in every way but what truly sold me was the VERSATILITY. At first this bag seemed odd due to no lining or compartments. BUT I GET IT...this bag became my gym bag, my school bag, my travelling bag, my work bag...It basically became the ultimate murse...and I was strangely SO okay with that....just do it...have fun with it...throw everything in it and go wild....this bag has got stories to tell!

I got this bag for Christmas last year from my parents and it has honestly been one of the best gifts ever. I bring it to school, on weekend trips, camping and as carry on luggage while traveling. It is amazing and goes with just about everything.The leather is so soft but very durable making it great for student or travel use. I cannot believe how many compliments I have gotten on it while walking around campus, people love this bag. I hope to have this backpack for the rest of my student life and beyond!

Perfect back pack
I love this back pack. It is made of beautiful leather. I have had it for years and it has not changed à bit. It is great for air travel as it has lots of room and fits under thé seat. Thanks for making such beautiful sturdy leather products. I have many of your leather bags and have always been 100 percent satisfied!

This bag defines ROOTS
If I may only pick one product among all for representing ROOTS,
This Tribe student backpack will be the one.
Not only it's the first product I experience from ROOTS,
The structure and built are strong, the design is fashionable and the volume is sufficient enough to carry almost everything we need, from daily school to a day trip escaping from the bust city.
As it states, the tribute leather becomes richer with age, it also makes me realize that I probably no longer need another backpack for another century, because other backpacks will never catch my eyes as ROOTS Tribute student backpack does.

Pride & tough
This was a gift about 5 years ago. Daily use, and I travel a lot on plane or foot or motorcycle. I have the Canadian flag edition and that also aged well along with the bags leather. I have pen ink or dirt really patina this bag over the Years. I ride in the rain at time and it surprisingly keeps everything dry when it's damp out side. The first year I remember had a lot of the inner lining coming off ( like you ll hear from other reviews but it just goes away over time. Didn't bother me. It fits my 13"laptop just fine. Anything bigger u might be pushing it. But I have fallen off my motorcycle with my computer and etc in the bag. Landed on the bag mostly and I slid on that thing across the intersection. Laptop was a bit bend but works and the bag held up like a champion. A few small holes from the road burned but it now looks even better. The strap almost un threaded at the bottom (didn't ind out till next day when it eventually detached. But brought to a shoe repair and fixed it in no time. So bottom line. I say quality. The only wheat and tear I have problem with is the zipper. It' comes off track and it's not zipping well. And with zippers. U always have to have both zippers at the edge and not in the middle as it could easy unzip by pulling it apart like when u open a bag of chips. I get friends and family compliments and now that they realize I have been using it 5yrs straight. They know it's a good bag. I m actually thinking of switching to the Omer because of this zipper thing. But I wish they have that giant Canadian patch on that too. Hope this helps. One more thing about this little inner pockets. I find them very useful but small things do fly every where off those pockets so I have a small pencil case bag for those little objects. Just a hint or suggestions if they have a little flap button or something.

Worth the investment!
I bought this bag a few years ago because I loved the look and feel of the leather as well as the quality construction. Ive since had it for a few years now and Its held up extremely well.
My only gripe is that the inside of the bag is unlined and leaves leather particles scattered throughout my textbooks. Also, it would have been great to have a small compartment to hold a laptop or at least something to keep it positioned upright in the bag.
That aside, its a fantastic, durable bag that I highly recommend!

I've had this bag for about 2 years now, and I know for a fact that I am going to cherish and use this bag for many decades to come!
This bag has climbed up with me in the Tatra as well as the Adirondack mountains as well as gone to class with me everyday. It holds everything you could possibly need school wise as well as anything you want to take outdoors or on a weekend trip.
This bag has also converted me to LOVING tribe leather! This leather ripens with age and will turn shinier and smoother over time. It is also very stylish so it will work with any outfit! Hands down, GET THIS BAG! You will not regret it!

I bought this one and inside the big compartment there's a nylon pocket ,well there, was , it ripped , the seam came apart so I just took it out very cheeeeeeeep , I called the store in victoria at the mayfair mall where I bought it and they said you can mail it off to roots but you have to have your receipt as proof , I said I got it for Xmas 2012 as a gift , so all in all don't buy it everyone ,.

Was looking for a leather back pack and came across this one. I was hesitant at first because of the price and my lack of funds (student problems), but I took the plunge and bought it. The thing is visually appealing. Looks excellent, feels excellent, is excellent. The leather is extremely soft and supple and looks great with every outfit. It's large enough to fit my laptop and several books and is small enough not to be an inconvenience. The only problem I have is that it doesn't have a water bottle holder, but who cares with a bag this good looking. Buy it (jedi wave).

Best gift I have ever received.
I had been looking at this bag for over a year however seeing as though I am a student, the price didn't seem feasible. When my girlfriend surprised me with it at Christmas I was ecstatic. After using this bag everyday for a few months I can honestly say its the best bag I have ever owned. The quality and style alone are superb. I bring it everywhere, from my university campus to day hikes on the Bruce trail. It fits everything and then some and feels very comfortable all day. The only complaint is that there is no liner on the inside however, this is insignificant compared to the overall value the bag. The price may seem steep, especially for a student but you will not be disappointed by this purchase! I look forward to using this one of a kind bag for years too come. Job well done Roots.

Lasts a life time and great quality
I exchanged my "Canadian Flag" New Student Pack Tribe for the plain one. I found I preferred the look of the bag without the flag as the quality and style of this bag lets people know it was "Made in Canada" by "Roots." It is roomy and can hold more than I need and I have found multiple uses for this bag. Overall this bag will last a lifetime and only get better with age.

Best Backpack I've Ever Bought
I absolutely love this backpack, it's gorgeous and is incredibly sturdy. I've had it for about 6 months now and it only gets better with time. The only thing that I might suggest would be a lining in the interior of the backpack, as, when you have books, etc inside the unfinished leather on the inside comes off on things (not permanently, just kind of sloughs off). Otherwise, it's a really fantastic bag and I absolutely love it - I would highly recommend it, it's better than any other backpack I've ever owned and I've received so many comments on it.

Perfect University Bag
I love this bag so much! I will be attending my first year of university and cannot wait to try out my bag! It fits my laptop, some books, and holds all the things I normally would in a Roots Bag. I can guarantee you this bag will only get better with age, it will start to smoothen and have a sheen look to it. So excited about this Christmas gift
This bag was at the top of my Christmas list, as a fashion student a leather backpack is the perfect addition to my school wardrobe. It is even roomier than it looks online and the soft leather is absolutely gorgeous. This bag will go with anything and everything... and will fit the ridiculous amount of stuff I bring to school. My brother has a similar bag that has lasted him years, with little to no visible wear. Very, very happy about this present!

Great leather quality
Bought this one in Banff this summer. The leather is not water resistant so must be careful when in use. But the leather is very soft and in premium quality! Match to the price. Looking for another smaller one recently. This one is quite big and can fit my books and netbook. But has no lining inside so some times hard to find small stuff I put in.
