Love everything about the quality and size and the best its 3 ways of using it, backpack, cross shoulder and shoulder bag. Downside is the strap which has its own mind as it keeps stretching and each I have to readjust it. So it finally became 2 ways of using it as I had to make a judgement call to use it as backpack and shoulder. I had it stitched so the strap stays. Otherwise I would rate it a 5. O yes I did drop by the store as perhaps they can suggest something, and answer I got its like that and they had no complaints on this and I was the 1st customer complaining about this. So finally I got this out, whewww. Otherwise it was a good purchase using it 2 ways.

However the bag just saga and bunches when it is in crossbody since it isn’t stuffed to the top. I don’t understand why the reviews from 7 years ago show that Roots would look into it and yet it still does this. I don’t think I should have to have a clipboard or tablet on my bag to keep it looking upright. For me - It really only looks nice as a backpack and then I can’t use it any other way. I also wish the flap was longer to cover the pockets since I don’t want to keep my cellphone in easy sight for someone to steal it when I am riding transit.

It's gorgeous leather, big enough to carry papers, a laptop but small enough so you can't overload your back, the parallel straps on the back are phenomenally comfortable (I can't use a regular backpack since the straps pull on the shoulders from a central hub and give me bad backaches), and it easily becomes a shoulder tote. Due to its size, I can carry a small Roots crossbody purse under it. I love the Small Raiders Pack! Best purchase ever!

I like to use it crossbody, but like others have mentioned it does bunch up quite a bit and I think the strap could be longer. I will keep it because it does have good features as size and zippers matter to me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Malco from Top quality materials; small design flaws I absolutely love this pack. The leather is buttery, the colour is perfect and the style is classic. The major design flaw is that the straps slide. So if you throw it over one shoulder (my preferred way to wear a backpack), the bag slides the whole way down the strap, making it look a little silly. To fix it, I have to stop everything to re-centre the handle and readjust the straps so that they're even (which defeats the purpose of having a backpack, since I chose this one for its convenience and ease of wearing). Could've avoided this problem easily by adding a couple of rivets to keep the handle in place. The stitching on the handle is also starting to come undone from wear, but only on one side (the other side was reinforced). I might have to see if I can get that fixed and have two rivets put in. Not a big deal, but disappointing considering the cost of the bag. The other thing I wish they had added is an additional regular backpack handle to easily grab it and go (like when getting out of the car, for example).

The pockets in the front are great for my phone or chap stick but the fact that it’s a zipper under the flap is awesome for travelling!

It was smaller than I expected, i think the mannequin bust it's displayed on is petite making it look bigger. With that aside, I love it. The quality is outstanding. It's a well thought out design. Haven't tried using it as a hand bag ir crossbody yet. It's extremely comfortable as a backpack and shoulder bag. I carry more items in it then i did in my purse and it feels lighter. My neck and upper is relieved. I highly recommend this bag!!

I wish I had changed sooner not only have I already felt the change in my back it is an easy purse and very versatile. Lots of pockets help with cell phone and keys. The clasp works great for easy access into the bigger main compartment which has its own zipper for even more security so you items don't fall out if it gets tipped over

This is also the most perfect crossbody bag. I will even look FAB as a shoulder bag once I can walk unaided! I Love ❤️ ❤️LOVE the colour and the softness of the suede! It is a forever bag!

Its been through a rain storm in Ireland, and have never treated or waterproofed it (see photo attached) It is my main purse as I love it so much. I have only had to have the zipper fixed and that's due to my overfilling the middle pouch (my bad). Was so out of sorts for 2 weeks waiting for my bag to come back! What I wish this bag had was the logo on the front as I am very proud of the Roots brand!

Mind you I do rotate every now & then, mostly with my Grace bag. Every Roots bag I've had has been of superior quality. I have about 6. Love them all, especially because they're made in my Hogtown.

Its comfortable and holds a lot of stuff which is ace in my books!! Rated 5 out of 5 by MAKENA from My go-to bag I've bought many Roots purses/bags in my lifetime and most have been great. However, this little backpack is by far my favorite. It's the pefect size for me, I love that the main compartment has a zipper and it keeps my hands free to hold shopping bags or my daughter's hand. The only thing I wish it had was an interior lining because the raw leather fragments often end up on items I put in the bag like gloves, scarves or hats. But I still love the bag and get lots of compliments!

Rated 1 out of 5 by frenchpress from Great Design, Poorly Stitching I've had this bag for a little over a year. I mostly use it as a backpack, but I appreciate the flexibility of use. The leather is beautiful, and the colour has really held up well. It's also the perfect size to carry an 11" macbook in addition to my usual purse items (glasses, wallet, etc.) without looking overstuffed. Unfortunately, there are several problems with the decorative stitching on the bag, and for this reason I don't recommend it. The stitching on front pocket started coming out and the pocket began falling off almost immediately after I purchased the bag. Since then, the stitching on the buckle, on the other pocket, and on the main pouch of the bag have all started to come out. It still works (except for the pockets that are falling off), but it looks really tacky with the stitching damaged and the threads sticking off all over the place. Great idea, but the quality just isn't there.

Mine had a visible nick on the flap ans I think it was there when I bought it, but didn't notice. Since I use mine more as a handbag, I wish there was a lining and some side pockets inside. The pockets on front outside are great! Also, I have to stuff it in order for it to keep it's shape: I use soft scarves 'pump it up. It is great as a more rustic carrier, I really needed a purse but could not afford the higher prices of the purses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RedBankRon from A Great Bag at a Very Good Price! I was killing time looking around Roots in Ottawa waiting for the rain to stop. A sales person asked me if I needed any help. I said the only thing I might want is a bag to replace the sports brand cinch sack I was carrying on my back. It was cheap looking, but the perfect size for my needs. The sales person then showed me the Small Raiders Pack bag and I thought it was perfect. It obviously looks much better than a cinch sack, and easily holds a bottle of water, some travel guides, sunglasses, camera, phone, wallet and a rain jacket. It is a lot more comfortable on my back than the cords of a nylon cinch sack and with the 2 front pockets, it is easier to organize things a bit. I first day I used the bag in Ottawa, I went to the art museum and was told that I needed to check my backpack. I then pulled the straps up to make it longer and hung it over my shoulder, and I was allowed to keep my bag with me. It proved to be quite versatile that day! Coming back to the US, 2 of my friends, a male and a female, have both told me that they just love the bag and would like one. It's a really well designed bag which holds enough items for a day trip around the city. It does tend to fold a bit when it hangs off the shoulder, but if you have a magazine, book, or ipad in it, the problem goes away. And yes, it easily hold all three! It was a great find while waiting out the rain! Great service in the Ottawa store, too!

I've been looking for a larger bag to take when travelling (I also have a smaller roots side bag) and this one is perfect. It's big enough to fit my normal purse content, but also has enough room so that I don't need to bring a separate camera bag. I love that it can be used a backpack as well, since my other side bag starts to feel a little heavy on the one shoulder if I've been out all day. As with my previous bag, the leather feels a bit stiff to start but I'm sure it will break in as beautifully as the last one. Also, the price point seemed fairly reasonable considering the quality (my other bag is now almost 8 years old and still looks brand new, similar leather finish) and the relatively large size.

There is a little tear (almost looks like a bubble) on the back...so you can't see it. It's very practical and perfect for everyday. This is my 3rd Roots bag now and like all the others I love it. Great that you can wear it 2 ways, very comfortable as a pack for light things!

I wanted a functional and versatile backpack/cross body purse for travelling. When you wear it as a backpack it's so comfortable I've forgotten it's there! Perfect size- not too big or small. I got the purple colour and it's gorgeous! I've gotten many compliments and people recognizing that it's Roots. Love it!!

I use it mostly as an everyday bag and also love that it can be a shoulder bag. Not so practical for school, it's a tad small in height for notebooks. The two zippered compartments are great for a people who are a little sensitive about having your valuables on your back! Great quality and overall amazing. Just wished it was a tiny bit longer (without being the next size up) for school!

My cell fits perfectly in the outside pocket for easy access! It's just starting to darken a little and looks amazing! I get so many compliments on it I'm sure I could have sold over a dozen myself walking around with it!! I highly recommend this bag! The only thing about it is it's ''raw' so there is no lining. A few of my smaller bags that go inside get full of leather pills - which is the only small thing I don't like about this bag. The other thing is the outside flap ends curl and I have to keep laying it on it's front to flatten them out again. But overall, I do LOVE this bag. The quality of ROOTS bags are amazing and they last forever! I love that the styles are always current even the ones I've had for years!!

It's a wonderful and innovative concept to be able to wear the bag different ways, however, when worn over the shoulder or cross-body the bag bunches quite badly at the bottom. The weight of the bag makes the strap pull and consequently the bottom of the bag "curls" upwards....it's uncomfortable and doesn't look good. Note: the bag will do this even with minimal weight inside of it. Unfortunately I had to return the bag because of this design issue.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Chisa from Nice, but ...... I bought this (smaller) version of the Raiders Pack which can be worn as either a shoulder purse, cross body or backpack. It looks great & smells wonderful, but when you wear it as a shoulder bag or cross body it tends to sag and bunch at the bottom so that when you walk it rubs you the wrong way. I am not sure how it would work as a backpack for comfort. I found it too small for my needs. It is too bad as It really does look wonderful but it just isn't comfortable. Also it doesn't have any inside pockets.
