Leather Conditioner

The Roots Leather Conditioner is a must-have for any leather lover. You can safely use this conditioner on your Roots boots, shoes, bags, jackets and any other smooth leather item in your home including your couch, chairs and leather car seats. Not to be used on suede or nubuck.

Because leather is a skin, it’s important to keep it moisturized and healthy to extend its life. The chemical-free Roots Leather Conditioner will moisturize and condition your leather, easily extending its life and giving it a beautiful, natural shine.

To use, first wipe off any everyday dirt from your leather item using the Roots Leather Cleaner Wipes or a clean cloth; make sure it’s as clean as possible. Shake the bottle of Roots Leather Conditioner to ensure it’s mixed properly then dispense a small amount onto the Roots Leather Polishing Cloth or a dry shammy. Buff the conditioner into the leather to give it a rich, warm glow once dry. Use this conditioner sparingly and only as needed when you feel your leather has gotten rougher and needs to be moisturized.

Rain and Stain Protector

The Roots Rain and Stain Protector is the quickest and easiest way to protect your leather goods from the elements. This spray will help your leather repel salt and water. You can safely use this protective spray on any Roots leather including Vintage Tribe Leather, Prince Leather and suede and nubuck. Before using on suede or nubuck, we recommend first brushing thoroughly with a suede brush.

To use, first wipe off any everyday dirt from your leather item using the Roots Leather Cleaner Wipes or any other clean cloth; make sure it’s as clean as possible. Shake the bottle of Roots Rain and Stain Protector well. Hold the spray can upright, approximately 8” – 12” away from the leather and spray evenly and sparingly over the entire surface. It will look wet when you’re done; please allow approximately one hour to dry. If you’re planning on using the Roots Rain and Stain Protector in addition to other Roots leather care products, it’s recommended you apply the spray last as a final layer of protection.

Roots Shine Cloth

The Roots Leather Polishing Cloth is a must-have for your Roots leather handbags, shoes, boots and jackets. This soft, durable flannel cloth helps to bring up a brilliant shine on your leather item.

Use with any of the above leather cleaning products to make sure your leather is shining as brightly as possible for years to come.

Saddle Soap

Originally introduced in 1973, Roots Saddle Soap is a wax that helps to clean and condition your leather shoes, boots, handbags and clothing. It also repels the elements. We recommend the Saddle Soap for heavier and oiled leathers such as Box Leather and Raging Bull Leather because the product is heavy itself and softer leathers, such as Prince Leather will be weighed down by it. If using on Prince Leather, use a very small amount. Not recommended for use on Vintage Tribe Leather because it will darken the appearance of natural leathers. Do not use on suede or nubuck.

To use, first wipe off any everyday dirt from your leather item using the Roots Leather Cleaner Wipes or any other clean cloth; make sure it’s as clean as possible. Using the Roots Leather Polishing Cloth or a clean, shammy, rub a small amount at a time in a circular motion, massaging it into your leather. Leave for a few minutes to dry.

General Leather Cleaning Tips

  • Always clean everyday dirt or salt stains before treating or using any of our leather care products.
  • Don’t only clean and care for the upper parts of your shoes. Also spray stitching and wipe soles with a damp cloth to give an over all fresh appearance.
  • Use a suede brush to clean everyday dirt from suede and nubuck before using any of the Roots Leather Care products.
  • Always test Roots Leather Care products on a small, inconspicuous area before treating entire surface.

How to Remove Salt Stains from Leather Boots and Shoes

Below are two options for removing salt stains from your leather shoes and boots. While these processes often work, they are not guaranteed. The best solution is prevention using one or a combination of the Leather Care Products listed above.

For best results, remove salt stains immediately. Do not let your leather item sit with salt on it as it can cause irreparable damage the leather. Always brush surface salt from the stains first using a leather cleaning brush, suede brush or a clean, unused toothbrush.

  • Mix one-part vinegar with two-parts water. First, brush the affected area with a leather cleaning brush, suede brush or other small, clean brush that’s similar. Using a clean cloth, dampen with the diluted vinegar solution and rub lightly into salt stain. Using a clean cloth, dampen with water and rub over the previously affected area to remove any excess vinegar. Diluting the vinegar with water is extremely important so the dyes are not also drawn from the leather along with the salt. If you’re unsure, use the below method instead.
  • To clean salt stains from coloured leathers, first brush the affected area with a toothbrush or other small, clean brush that’s similar. Dampen a clean cloth with milk and rub lightly onto salt stains. Wipe off any excess with a dry, clean cloth. Using a clean, damp cloth, wipe off any excess then go over one last time with a clean dry cloth. This process may slightly darken your natural leathers such as Vintage Tribe Leather.
