The fit is REALLY strange-- I have no idea what kind of child measurements they are using to design these. It seems like they are designed for lego minifigures rather than human children. I ordered the M for my averaged-sized 8 year old, and the sleeves are too short for him to use the little thumb hole, but the shoulders are so large and stiff that he looks like a football player. Really surprised that the Roots designers have failed this badly, but I don't think I'll be ordering again without having my children try on.
