New Accessories & Hat Designed After the 2002 Best-Selling Winter
Beret
New
York, N.Y. – Roots, an official outfitter of the 2004 U.S.
Olympic Team, unveiled the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Collection today
during NBC’s “Today Show” and during a special
media and athlete fashion show held at the NBC Experience Store
in Rockefeller Plaza, New York City.
Olympic fashions hit retail stories today as the line of official
2004 U.S. Olympic Team merchandise and commemorative apparel was
introduced and modeled by U.S. Olympic athletes and hopefuls preparing
to compete in the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, August 13-29,
2004. All U.S. Olympic fashions by Roots can be found at www.roots.com,
www.usolympicshop.com as well as select retail
stores.
“It’s all about the athletes,” Roots co-founder,
Michael Budman declared. “The U.S. athletes are proud to represent
their country and the Roots team has designed a stylish and bold
new look for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team. When the U.S. athletes
walk into Olympic Stadium in Athens it will be one of the greatest
moments in their lives – we want them to look as good as they
feel and to be proud to represent the United States.”
Unveiled today was the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team village wear retail
line and replica items from the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Closing Ceremonies
uniform such as; the retro-designed shooting vest ($49.95) and the
Team USA Bucket Beach Hat ($24.95). Additional U.S. Olympic Team
retail items include a variation of the 80/20 cotton-polyester t-shirts,
tank tops, sweatshirts, sweatpants and tops.
On NBC’s “Today Show,” new fun and trendy accessories
were unveiled and worn by 2004 U.S. Olympic Team members; Jennie
Finch (softball), Keeth Smart (fencing), and Jennifer Nichols (archery).
Finch, featured in People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful
People” edition modeled retro 50s accessories and items from
the Roots village wear line. This included a women’s U.S.
Wringer Tank Top in Wildcat Red ($19.95), the Women’s U.S.
Sweatpant with USA on the backside ($49.95), authentic Team USA
Wristbands ($6.95), and Team USA Flip Flops ($15.95).
Keeth Smart, the only U.S. fencer to be ranked number-one in the
world, was the first U.S. Olympic Team member to wear what is expected
to be the “hottest” item in the 2004 village wear line
by Roots. The Parade hat, complete with embroided detailing and
the 2004 U.S. Look of the Team olive wreath logo is a cousin of
the 2002 beret. Watch for the Parade hat to be worn by more than
650 U.S. athletes as they march into Opening Ceremonies in Athens,
Greece on August 13, 2004.
“One of the most memorable moments of the 2002 Olympic Winter
Games was the Parade uniform worn by our U.S. athletes during Opening
Ceremonies,” said Jim Scherr, Chief Executive of the United
States Olympic Committee. “The winter athletes continue to
wear pieces of the village wear and team uniform Roots made for
them in 2002. Now, our summer athletes will get to show off their
own Olympic Games team apparel, which was designed especially for
those athletes that will compete in Athens, Greece,” added
Scherr.
Roots will provide over 1000 athletes, coaches and staff with a
full range of clothing and accessories. The official athlete Opening
Ceremonies uniform for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team line will be revealed
just before the 2004 Olympic Games this summer.
Roots will also produce the Closing Ceremony attire and travel wear
including luggage.
The color palate for the U.S. Team wear is True Navy, Wildcat Red
and White.
Americans will be able to show their support for Team USA 2004 by
purchasing the official Roots USA 2004 Olympic Collection at select
Roots stores, on line at www.roots.com, and www.usolympicshop.com
and through leading retailers including Dillard’s, Marshall
