OUTFITS CANADIAN ATHLETES FOR SUCCESS MAY 18, 2004
Toronto Vancouver, Montreal – In simultaneous press conferences
in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, Roots and the Canadian Olympic Committee
unveiled the Canadian Olympic Team uniforms for the 2004 Olympic Games
in Athens.
Canadian
Olympic hopefuls were present in all three cities to model the new team
look. Made entirely in Canada, Roots created the Opening Parade, Closing
Parade, Podium and Village wear that will be worn by over 560 athletes,
coaches and officials.
“The opening ceremonies for the Olympic Games are always an emotional
and moving moment for athletes. They are justifiably proud to represent
Canada on the greatest world stage – the Olympiad. We are proud
to have played our part in designing and producing the official team uniforms
that will help Canada shine in Athens,” said Roots cofounder Michael
Budman.
“The Canadian Olympic Committee is pleased that Roots has once again
created a distinctive look for the Canadian team that will showcase our
athletes and our country to the world,” said Canadian Olympic Committee
CEO Chris Rudge. “As one of our valued partners for the past six
years, Roots has consistently outfitted Canadian team members in clothing
that stands out from the crowd.”
The Canadian team will march with patriotism and pride, wearing their
country’s red and white colours in a stylish parade jersey, pants
for men and capris for women, and a baseball cap. Each piece carries the
Canadian Olympic team crest, the distinctive CANADA logo, the ‘04
Maple Leaf logo and the Roots logo.
The Podium uniform for medal winners will feature a lightweight white
track jacket with wildcat red piping and pants. For Reception wear each
team member will don fashionable khaki shorts/skirts, windbreakers and
polo shirts. All Canadian team wear is made exclusively by Roots in Canada.
Roots is also proud to be the Official Outfitter of the Canadian Paralympic
team.
Canadians will be able to support their Olympic athletes by purchasing
the Official Roots Olympic team wear at Roots stores across the country
and online at www.roots.com.
A percentage of proceeds from the sales of the Official Olympic team wear
will be donated to the COC’s Canadian Olympic Excellence Fund to
support high performance athletes. In stores May 18th, the retail collection
includes men’s, women’s and kid’s lines consisting of
t-shirts, ringer t-shirts, tank tops, sweat tops and bottoms, parade shirts,
headwear, footwear, accessories and the traditional awards jacket for
which Roots is famous.
