ROOTS SALUTES CANADIAN OLYMPIC ATHLETES AHEAD OF TORINO

TORONTO - As planning for next year’s Winter Olympics in Torino intensifies, Roots wishes the Canadian Olympic team, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and VANOC (Vancouver Organizing Committee) great success with its preparations for the upcoming games.

Although Roots won’t be outfitting the Canadian Olympic team in Torino, our commitment to Canada’s Olympic athletes, the COC and VANOC remains strong and positive.

Roots is proud of its achievements outfitting Canada’s Olympic athletes since the Winter Games in Nagano in 1998. At the past four Olympic Games, Roots created a strong brand image for the Canadian team, winning international acclaim for the sense of style we brought to their look. We encouraged Canadians from coast to coast to support our country’s talented and dedicated Olympic athletes by purchasing the team merchandise. As such, we generated significant and much-needed funding for the athletes. Such financial support in the apparel sector was unprecedented in Canada’s Olympic history.

Roots continues to stand behind Canadian sport. We are supporting Canadian Olympic athletes Alexandre Despatie, Adam Van Koeverden, Ross Rebagliati. We are supporting both the Canadian men’s and women’s speed skating teams. We are actively involved in sponsoring grassroots, community sports events all over the country.

Roots will be extremely active at the 2006 Winter Games in Torino. Building on the success of our 2004 and 2002 Olympic partnership with the United States Olympic team, Roots is the official outfitter for the 2006 US team and is now at work preparing the US program. Roots continues to be a proud, dedicated member of the Olympic family and we look forward to pursuing future Olympic-related projects.
